WANA (May 03) – Alma Hosseini, a young Iranian weightlifter, made history at the IWF Youth and Junior World Championships in Peru by winning two medals and setting three new national records in the 64kg youth category.

Hosseini, the first member of Iran’s national team to compete at the global championships in Peru, secured the country’s first medals at the event by earning a silver and a bronze in the youth 64kg category.

She won silver in the clean and jerk by lifting 111kg on her second attempt. Her total of 197kg placed her third in the overall rankings, earning her the bronze medal.

In the snatch, Hosseini came close to a medal as well, lifting 86kg and finishing in fourth place due to a tie in the result but ranking behind on body weight.

With these performances, Hosseini also improved all three Iranian national youth records in the 64kg category. She increased the snatch record by 4kg, the clean and jerk by 10kg, and the total by 16kg.

Previously, the national records stood at 82kg in the snatch and 183kg in total, both held by Alma Hosseini herself. The clean and jerk record of 101kg belonged to Seyyedeh Ghazaleh Hosseini.

This is the second time in history that an Iranian female lifter has won a medal at the Youth World Championships, following Yekta Jamali’s achievement in 2021.
